Mahima Sukumar, in her second year of undergraduate study at Johns Hopkins has been working with researchers at the Lieber Institute to acquire hands-on laboratory experience that will prepare her for a future career in Neuroscience. Her research project was among those selected to be presented at The Johns Hopkins Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology Poster Session on November 22.
Mahima has been working directly with a postdoctoral fellow in the Martinowich lab, Kristen Maynard, Ph.D., [above left] on her project, which investigates the role of neurogenesis in hippocampal plasticity in the context of psychiatric disease and treatment. Mahima has shown an eagerness to pursue a scientific career and has already completed over 200 hours of laboratory research while also carrying a heavy academic load.
Her outstanding poster presentation was recognized by undergraduate faculty and staff in the Johns Hopkins Neuroscience department, allowing her to achieve Neuroscience Program Honors at this very early stage in her studies.
