The William Walker Awards are granted each year to a small number of medical students at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for summer research projects in psychiatry

Sina Shahmatadar, who has just finished his first year of medical school, was selected for a Walker Award to study suicide risk factors with Dr. Thomas Hyde at the Lieber Institute for Brain Development (LIBD). Mr. Shahmatadar’s project was one of seven selected from an unusually robust pool of research proposals this year, and he will examine pre-natal and childhood factors among close relatives of suicide victims.

“We congratulate Sina on this honor and are very pleased to have him join us as at LIBD as we continue to train the next generation of psychiatric research scientists and clinicians,” commented Dr. Hyde.
