Sara Maurer, Ph.D. joined Kristen Maynard’s group in January 2026 as a staff scientist focusing on molecular neuroanatomy. Her prior work as a postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Hanna Stevens’s lab at the University of Iowa assessed sex-specific gene expression changes in the murine placenta and developing brain due to prenatal stress. She received her Ph.D. in Psychology and Neuroscience (Systems and Integrative Neuroscience track) from Duke University, where she studied maternal choline nutrition as a mitigator of hippocampal neuroinflammation throughout the lifespan in Dr. Christina Williams’s lab. Sara received her B.S. in psychology with a minor in biology from Saint Vincent College, where she studied inattentional blindness.
