Robert Phillips, Ph.D., joined Dr. Keri Martinowich’s lab in September 2023 as a postdoctoral fellow. Robert received his B.S. in Biological Sciences from Salisbury University, and his Ph.D. in Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics from University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he worked with Dr. Jeremy Day. In Dr. Day’s lab, he used single nucleus RNA-sequencing to characterize the transcriptomic signatures of discrete cell populations across brain reward circuitry. He also utilized a combination of bulk sequencing techniques and CRISPR-based genome regulation to identify and functionally characterize novel enhancers that regulate genes important for cellular and behavioral adaptations to drugs of abuse. Within Dr. Martinowich’s lab, Robert is interested in characterizing the molecular signatures of neuronal ensembles in the lateral septum, as well as their functional role in the development of social behaviors.
