Geo Pertea is a bioinformatics scientist who joined the Lieber Institute as a Staff Scientist II in 2020. Drawing on extensive experience in bioinformatics development and genomic data management, Geo is involved with overseeing the Institute’s data infrastructure and collaborates on grant-funded studies of brain development and neuropsychiatric disorders. He has contributed to the development of well-cited RNA-seq software, including the transcript assembler StringTie. Before joining LIBD, Geo worked as a bioinformatics software engineer at Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Computational Biology. He earned an M.D. from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila” in Bucharest and an M.S. in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University.
