Dr. Gwenaëlle Thomas joined the LIBD in 2022 and serves as the Scientific Project Manager. She currently oversees research grant portfolios and programs in basic science and translational studies associated with psychiatric illnesses, neurodevelopmental disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Before joining the LIBD, Dr. Thomas co-founded BlackInNeuro, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and served as the director of communications for 3 years. She earned her neurobiology doctorate at Duke University School of Medicine where she trained with Kafui Dzirasa, M.D., Ph.D. and Marc Caron, Ph.D. to specialize in neuropsychopharmacology. Her graduate training included clinical shadowing in psychiatry and neurology and extensive behavioral neuroscience, neuroanatomy, molecular and cellular biology, neuroengineering, and machine learning. Prior to her studies at Duke University, she earned the Meyerhoff Scholarship and completed a dual degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Psychology B.S. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
